Dog walking
Norfolk Pet Services offer dog walking in the areas surrounding both Fakenham and Tunstead. We offer small Social Walks and One-to-One Walks.
Our dog walkers are all dog owners themselves and enjoy using positive training to provide mental stimulation to the dogs on walks.
Two kinds of walk
Social walks are a wonderful way for your dog to meet other dogs, and get the added exercise of running and playing with them. Our social groups consist of 2–4 dogs and each dog is carefully assessed and matched only to others that will be compatible.
One-to-one walks are available for those dogs that are unsuitable for group walks due to health, temperament or anxiety. These dogs will usually be on-lead only.
Fearful or reactive dogs
If you have a dog that is fear reactive or fearful of dogs, we will start it off on one-to-one walks. However we often find that (with your consent), with careful introductions, counter conditioning and management, most dogs are able to walk with others after a period of time.
Our stooge dog, Puddle, is extremely good at reading body language and is always the first dog we introduce in order to assess behaviour. He is very gentle and patient if a dog shows any signs of fear or reactivity towards him, gives them plenty of time and space and has never failed yet at winning even the most reactive dogs over.
Please note that we will not be able to attempt this with any dogs that have bitten dogs and drawn blood in the past, however we will be very happy to walk these dogs one-to-one and give them just as much stimulation from reward-based training.
Before the first walk
Prior to commencement of services we require a consultation in order to meet and discuss your dog’s requirements. This is usually done in your own home but alternative arrangements can be made if this is impractical for you. The consultation is free of charge.
